   Division 3 No. 6-ranked Brighton Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy won its second straight Michigan High School Athletic Association District Volleyball Championship, sweeping host Whitmore Lake 3-0 for the District 87 title on Thursday, Nov. 7.

   Stockwell (35-5-1) easily won the match, 25-11, 25-6, and 25-13.

   Senior Paige Gallentine led the Sentinels with 21 kills, eight digs and seven service aces against Whitmore Lake. Junior Jenna Vaske had 12 kills, nine digs and two aces. Sophomore Shelby Urquhart finished with 32 assists, five digs, and two aces.

   Stockwell advanced to the district final with a 25-5, 25-7 and 25-11 victory over Ypsilanti Arbor Preparatory. Whitmore Lake beat Ann  Arbor Greenhills 3-1 in the other semifinal on Wednesday.

night, regardless of what was on the other side of the net,” Stockwell head coach Paula Gallentine told reporters. “They just wanted to play their volleyball, and they did it well. The girls are playing very disciplined and they’re playing very aggressive.”

   Stockwell advances to the Region 22 semifinals at Petersburg Summerfield at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, against the winner of Friday’s District 88 final between Riverview Gabriel Richard and Dearborn Heights Star International. Stockwell reached the regional title game last season, falling to Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central.
