   Detroit Renaissance swept Detroit Cass Technical 3-0 to earn the 2021 Detroit Public School League Volleyball Championship for the second straight season on Friday, Oct. 29, in front of a packed crowd at Renaissance.

   Renaissance won the match 25-16, 25-18, 25-21.

   Sophomore setter Trinity Loundmon controlled the Phoenix offense dishing numerous assists. She also won six service points and had two aces and two kills.

   Sophomore outside hitter Brooklyn Jones had six kills, 12 service wins, and five aces. Senior middle blocker Anya Coates had four kills, two

 

service wins, and an ace.  Senior outside hitter Mackenzie Jarvis won

seven service points, with  two aces, and two kills. Sophomore libero Reyele Williams won seven service points.

   Renaissance beat Cass Tech 3-1 in last season’s championship, ending a three-year reign by Cass Tech.

   Renaissance hosts the Michigan High School Athletic Association District 27 tournament next week. Renaissance plays Warren Fitzgerald in its opener on Monday, Nov. 1.

   Cass Tech plays in District 26 at Melvindale. It opens against Detroit Western International on Monday.
