Irish eliminate Blackhawks

Volleyball: Pontiac Notre Dame Preparatory beats Ortonville Brandon 3-0 in MHSAA district opener on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018.

   Defending Michigan High School Athletic Association Class B champion Pontiac Notre Dame Preparatory fought off Ortonville Brandon 3-0 in its Division 2*, District 61 opener on Monday, Oct. 29, at Brandon.

   Notre Dame Prep won 25-22, 25-10, and 25-17 to win its 48th straight victory and improve to 58-5 on the season.

   Senior Maddy Chinn scored 12 points from the service line, collected 14 kills and hit at a .500 pace had two blocks and 17 digs for the Irish. Senior Natalie Risi had nine points, five aces, 18 kills and 11 digs. Senior Maria Famularo had 12 points, five kills, 20 assists, and 12 digs. Freshman Alyssa Borellis added 11 points, eight kills, 17 assists, and 16 digs.

   Notre Dame Prep faces Goodrich today (Oct. 30) in the semifinals. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood battles Pontiac in the other semifinal. The district final is Thursday, Nov. 1.

* The MHSAA switched from classes to divisions for the 2018 playoffs.
