   Detroit Cass Technical won its third-straight Detroit Public School League Varsity Volleyball Championship with a 3-1 comeback victory over Detroit Renaissance at Detroit Martin Luther King Jr. high school on Thursday, Oct. 24.

   The Technicians fell in a back-and-forth first set, 23-25.

   Sophomore Kimani Johnson took charge in the second set with five kills as the Technicians dominated the set, 25-9.

   It was senior Darnishia Williams-Sorrell's turn in the third set with six kills for the Techicians.  Junior Brandi Seaborn served the final seven points of the set wth three aces for a 25-11 victory for the Technicians.

   The fourth and final set was a barnburner as neither team led by more than four points. Williams-Sorrell had four kills in the set. With the set tied 28-28, senior Tyra Treadway had a block to put the Technicians

 ahead by one. The Phoenix would tie the set for the 15th time at 29-29.  But Treadway's kill put the Technicians ahead again by one. Johnson finished the set and match with a powerful kill to give the Technicians a 31-29 victory.  Johnson finished the set with five kills and 17 in the match. Williams-Sorrell had 12 kills in the match.  Senior Amber Gregory was stellar with 31 assists and 12 digs. Junior Jordan Williams contributed

   Cass Tech beat Detroit Communication & Media Arts 3-0 and19 digs. Renaissance downed Detroit Western International 3-0 in the semifinals on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

   Cass Tech and Renaissance could battle again match in the Michigan High School Athletic Association regionals. Cass Tech hosts the  MHSAA District 28 playoffs and Renaissance competes in the District 27 playoffs at Warren Fitzgerald.
